If you’re a regular follower of Apple TV Hacks, you might remember reading a similar story before. Earlier this year, Apple introduced a promotional offer for Apple TV, thanks to which every purchase of the set-top box would come with a free $25 iTunes Card. And as per Apple Online Store, the deal is live again.

At the I/O developers conference yesterday, Google unveiled their vision of the set-top box, called Android TV. Packing much more than just screen mirroring as in Chromecast, the Android TV sounds better than the recently announced Amazon Fire TV. However, for Apple TV Hacks followers, most of the features on Android TV would seem like deja vu.
Update: The new Apple TV software beta brings iCloud Family Sharing to the big screen.
Apple today released Apple TV 7 beta 1 firmware to developers. This new beta is supposed to be used for “testing AirPlay with iOS apps.” As we previously reported, one of the new iOS 8 features is the new peer-to-peer connection for AirPlaying to Apple TV.
Even though you can stream any content from your Mac to the Apple TV with a native OS X (Mountain Lion or later) AirPlay Mirroring feature or by using third-party software like AirParrot, Beamer was able to grab much attention with their particular focus on just one thing – broadcasting movies from Mac to an Apple TV, in the best audio and video quality possible. XBMC is probably the most popular and versatile media managing hub out there, thanks to its supports for a variety of content, provision for third party addons and compatibility with almost all operating systems. However, Apple doesn’t seem to think so, as there are no XBMC apps for iPhone or iPad nor any XBMC support on Apple TV, may be due to the misuse for piracy. But it seems unfair that the rest non-pirate good fellas have to suffer too. And although there is a way to get XBMC working on the original Apple TV, as well as on jailbroken Apple TV 2 (see more details at the end of this post), there are still millions of Apple TV 3 (and non-jailbreakable Apple TV 2*) owners left without the ability to get XBMC on their little, black boxes.
But while we can in no way add XBMC directly to the Apple TV 3, there sure is a way to enjoy XBMC content on the HDTV using a 3rd gen. Apple TV. Here’s how.
