Apple TV is continuing to push its way into more and more American households, and the content distributors are slowly but surely falling in line. CBS has been ridiculously slow to embrace streaming options, only recently agreeing to allow their content to be sold on Amazon and Netflix. And according to AllThingsD, CBS’ Chief Executive Officer Les Moonves has declared publicly that he’d be willing to place their programming on Apple TV as well.
Until now only available on jailbroken devices, Hulu Plus official app has finally arrived on Apple TV. Hulu icon now shows up on the Apple TV home screen (no update needed, just reboot your device) giving you instant access to all the shows, series and movies available on Hulu Plus. The monthly subscription is $7.99 and there is a one week free trial for new users. If you are new to the service you can sign-up through Apple TV using an Apple ID.
iTunes in the Cloud for movies is finally available outside of the United States. Apple has just rolled out the service to over 35 new countries. iTunes Movies in the Cloud gives users the ability to access previously purchased movies and TV shows right from iCloud on the Apple TV.
FireCore has just updated its aTV Flash (black) for Apple TV to version 1.7, which, among other things, features seamless access to trakt.tv – a TV show and movie recommendation service that helps keep a record of what TV shows and movies you are watching. Trakt is different than other sites since it automatically keeps a record of what you are watching and don’t rely on manual check ins.
Apple has just released a minor software update for Apple TV 2 and Apple TV 3. Apple TV 5.0.1 (9B206f) adds HD previews for TV shows and movies in the iTunes store and brings fixes to Netflix, AirPlay and Home Sharing.
FireCore has released a new version of its Apple TV supercharger – aTV Flash (black). Version 1.4 brings support for M3U and PLS playlists, TrueHD audio, EyeTV folder detection and a bunch of improvements and bug fixes. Additinally, aTV Flash (black) is now available also in Finnish, German, Japanese, Norwegian, Polish, Russian, and Swedish.
aTV Flash (black) is currently only compatible with AppleTV versions 4.2 – 4.4.4. FireCore has announced that they are already working on the new version that will be compatible with recently released Apple TV software version 5.0.
