AppleInsider discoverd a growing thread at the Apple Support Communities website where users report issues after updating their Apple TVs (2nd and 3rd generation) to the latest Apple TV 5.1 software. It looks like many Apple TVs are getting bricked after running the update:

We have had XBMC 11.0 Eden for 8 months now and, if you are anything like me, it is time to begin the process of upgrading our XBMC installations to the new & improved XBMC 12.0 Frodo. The process should be fairly straight forward and essentially identical to the process we used for install the previous version of XBMC. Before we get started let’s clear the air on a few points so that we are all on the same page:
If you are a fan of jailbreaking your Apple TV’s, or even your iDevice (iPad, iPhone, iPod), then you are likely aware of XBMC. This awesome multi-media platform has worked its way from the original XBOX all the way to your Apple TV 2, and even your iPod Touch. Though installing XBMC is one of the easiest hacks to through on your jailbroken Apple product, getting XBMC set up correctly, and effectively, is a process that can take the better part of a year to learn, understand, and master. That is, until the release of the new XBMC HUB Wizard.
Remember last week when pod2g tweeted that neither he nor anyone he knows of was working on the Apple TV 3 jailbreak? We asked you to cool down and to never lose a hope since we knew there were people working on this. The confirmation that the work is ongoing on this particular jailbreak came from 9to5Mac, as they have learned that „a jailbreak for the third-generation Apple TV is indeed in the works from someone with close knowledge of the project“:
Work on Apple TV 3 jailbreak is still in progress, according to FireCore. Although the company is working hard on this long-awaited jailbreak, the SeasOnPass and aTV Flash maker admitted on its blog that the jailbreak for Apple TV 3 “has proven to be a bit elusive up to this point.”
Now that Seas0nPass has been updated to provide an untethered jailbreak for Apple TV 2 running the latest 5.0.2 (iOS 5.1.1) firmware and a brand new version of aTV Flash (black) for Apple TV 2 has been released, it seems like a perfect time to give a try to the FireCore‘s Apple TV supercharger. If you’re still unfamiliar with aTV Flash (black), you can read our review and then try to get a free copy of this amazing piece of software by participating in our giveaway.
