English Premier League official app on Apple TV? Wouldn’t it be great to be just two clicks away from fantastic games like yesterday’s City’s impressive victory against Liverpool? Daily Mail reports that Apple is considering bidding for the TV rights to show live Premier League football. The Mail claims that “the Premier League is seen as the type of premium content that will help establish Apple TV in the UK and boost iPad sales.” According to DM, the three certain bidders will be Sky (who paid £1.6billion for their current packages), ESPN and Al Jezeera. The Mail also suggests that Google could be interested in the EPL rights for its Google TV, which is due to launch in the UK and Europe this year.
jailbreak apple tv
Two weeks after iOS hacker and Chronic Dev-Team member Pod2g announced an untethered jailbreak for Apple TV 2 running 4.4.3 (and 4.4.4), FireCore made this jailbreak publicly available by releasing an updated version of Seas0nPass that supports an untethered jailbreak of the latest 4.4.4 (iOS 5.0.1) Apple TV software. Obviously, the new Seas0nPass uses Pod2g’s exploit.
Little by little the apps are coming to the Apple TV. Hacker and iOS developer Steven Troughton-Smith and a hacker called TheMudKip have made it to run iPhone and iPad apps on an Apple TV 2, jailbroken with Seas0nPass. Using @TheMudkip’s MobileX window manager for iOS, and @chpwn’s MobileLaunchpad launcher to go with it, they managed to get multiple iOS apps running natively on Apple TV, without AirPlay. Later on, they even figured out a way to run iPad applications at a full 720p resolution.
iOS hacker and Chronic Dev-Team member Pod2g has announced an untethered jailbreak for Apple TV 2 running 4.4.3. He didn’t give any ETA but he said he will be able to test it in some days (it appears that FireCore’d ship him an Apple TV 2 for testing), so everyone is expecting the jailbreak will be released very soon. We will keep you updated.
So far, the only way to jailbreak Apple TV 2 running 4.4.3 is a tethered jailbreak provided by FireCore’s Seas0nPass.
Last week, FireCore released aTV Flash (black) 1.0 to supercharge your 2nd generation Apple TV. New aTV Flash features all-new Media Player, WebKit based browser, Last.fm radio, Weather, RSS feeds and gives you fast access to plugins like nitoTV, Remote HD, XBMC and Plex client. All new features are installed alongside the normal Apple TV features, so things like movie rentals, Netflix, and AirPlay will remain unchanged.
We are giving away 10 free copies of this fantastic piece of software. Here are the details:
FireCore’s Seas0nPass has been updated for Apple TV 2 running firmware 4.4.3. It’s still a tethered jailbreak, meaning every time there is a need to reboot your Apple TV, you will have to connect it to a computer. Seas0nPas for 4.4.3 doesn’t support XBMC, Plex client, and Rowmote plugins yet. Supported are Media Player, Couch Surfer, nitoTV, Remote HD, Last.fm, Weather, RSS Feeds and Overflow.
