The thermometer is taking a dip around this part of our hemisphere and that means that indoor activities are becoming more crucial than ever. One of our default picks for indoor entertainment is firing up the big screen and downloading the latest to give our weekends a little junk culture jolt. And this weekend we might just lock the doors, order pizza, commandeer the couch then call it a movie marathon and here’s our top choices for that race.

A new WiFi standard called 802.11ac, which enables significantly faster transfer speeds than 802.11n, has recently began to find it’s way into consumer devices, including the new AirPort Extreme and Time Capsule base Station. Now it seems the Apple TV is about to get the same treatment, with speculation that a new Apple TV will be released soon with 802.11ac support.

Apple is on a role with their updates and allowing third parties to hook into their Apple TV device: back in June the company added HBO GO, WatchESPN and Sky News apps, last month Vevo TV, Disney Channels, Smithsonian and Weather Channel showed up on our little black devices, next it was Amazon with their update to watch Amazon Video on the Apple TV, and then the big 6.0 firmware update offering iTunes Radio, iTunes Music Store and AirPlay from iCloud. Yesterday Apple added yet more content with Major League Soccer and Disney Junior channels appearing now on Apple TV home screen.
