Apple has updated its App Programming Guide for tvOS to include one small, but very significant change: all Apple TV games that support third-party game controllers must also support the new Apple TV Siri Remote.

Official Plex app is coming to the new Apple TV

Although it has been possible to use Plex on the Apple TV for years now, it has never been simple to get it working on your device: you had to either jailbreak your Apple TV 2 and use an unofficial Plex client, or hack a non-jailbreakable Apple TV 3 using PlexConnect and hope that you won’t lose the hack with the next software update.

It looks that with the new Apple TV, everything will be much easier for Plex fans.

It runs the all-new tvOS operating system, based on Apple’s iOS, enabling iOS developers to create new apps and games specifically for Apple TV. 9to5Mac’s Mark Gurman has revealed some new details on the upcoming Apple TV 4. According to “sources with knowledge of the product”, the new Apple TV will have a big focus on gaming. 

Users will be able to download games directly from the Apple TV’s built-in App Store and control them via a new bundled remote control that will include both tactile physical buttons and a touchpad interface.

Following his previous report that the new Apple TV will be announced at Apple’s annual September event, BuzzFeed’s John Paczkowski now says that Apple is planning to held the event on September 9th.

Sources familiar with Apple’s plans tell BuzzFeed News the company intends to hold a special event the week of Sept. 7, with Wednesday the 9th being the most likely date.
