We knew there were people out there working on the jailbreak for Apple TV 3 but, honestly, we thought they had already given up. But it seems someone still believes it’s possible to jailbreak the third-generation Apple TV. Brad Smith, director of engineering at RadiumOne, spoke at AltWWDC last week about building apps for Apple TV, or rather “testing the waters on TV App development” so the devs are prepared for when it becomes mainstream. When he said that there is unfortunately no jailbreak available for ATV3, someone from the audience shouted “We are working on it!” (see the video below, minute 5:28). Has any of you, dear readers, attended this session? If anyone can help us identify the author of these words, please get it touch. We will also appreciate any info on anyone currently working on Apple TV 3 jailbreak.

Last week we reported that Plex now runs on non-jailbroken Apple TV 2 and Apple TV 3 thanks to PlexConnect, a clever little hack that allows a fully-functional Plex client on non-jailbroken ATV2 and ATV3. We also posted a tutorial on how to get it working on your little black box using a Mac. Below is an installation guide for Windows XP, Vista, 7 and 8.
Earlier this week we reported that it’s now possible to run Plex on non-jailbroken Apple TV 2 and Apple TV 3, as group of devs (Baa, roidy and f00b4r) has released a PlexConnect, a little hack that allows a fully-functional Plex client on non-jailbroken ATV2 and ATV3. You can find more details here.
And here is a tutorial on how to get it all working using a Mac:
Plex client has been available for Apple TV for a few years now, but it only worked on jailbroken Apple TV 2. What’s more, it wasn’t compatible with the latest Apple TV software versions. Well, that has just changed as a group of devs (Baa, roidy and f00b4r) has released a PlexConnect, a “super clever little hack which allows a rich, fully-functional Plex client on un-jailbroken ATV2 and ATV3 (1080p!) devices.” Here is how it works:
MacRumors reports that the CW network has struck a deal with Apple to bring its TV Now application to the Apple TV. Speaking from New York at the company’s annual Upfront Presentation yesterday, CW president Mark Pedowitz said the network’s content, which is currently accessible on Microsoft’s Windows 8 and Xbox 360, will also become available on Apple TV.
9to5Mac reports that Apple has informed its official retail stores, authorized resellers and Apple Care employees that a small number of 3rd generation Apple TVs have WiFi issues:
Apple has determined that a very small number of Apple TV (3rd generation) products might experience one of these Wi-Fi related connectivity issues:
- Cannot locate network
- Unable to join network
- Dropped or intermittent connection
Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider (AASP) will replace affected products up to two years from the original date of purchase free of charge.
