apple television1 JP Morgan: 2012 not likely to see Apple TV set

Thanks to JP Morgan analyst Mark Moskowitz, our dreams of a 2012 release of the famed Apple TV set have been dashed. The team over at AppleInsider has obtained a “note to investors” where Mr. Moskowitz is quoted saying that the firm’s research “does not indicate any looming TV-related product launch.” Moskowitz also goes on to explain that the current conditions of the economy simply are not favorable for Apple to release this long awaited device.

epix apple tv Apple seeking streaming content partners for Apple television. Hello EPIX!

It would seem that Apple is looking to EPIX in hopes of creating a content partnership allowing Apple to stream movies on both their set top boxes, and the up and coming Apple television. EPIX, for those of you hiding under a rock, is a streaming content provider created by Lions Gate Entertainment Corp, MGM, and Viacom’s Paramount Pictures. According to the folks over at REUTERS:

Apple Inc began talks earlier this year to stream films owned by EPIX [...] on devices including a long-anticipated TV, according to two people with knowledge of the negotiations. One of the sources told Reuters that any discussions would apply to its set-top box and also to upcoming devices that stream content. Talks with EPIX are in the preliminary stages and no agreement is considered near, the source said.

apple television Analyst: Apple branded television to be released this fall

Apple will release its own branded TV by the end of the year, according to Canaccord Genuity analyst Michael Walkley, quoted by The Mac Observer. In a note to clients, Walkley wrote:

Following our supply chain checks, we have increased confidence Apple will launch a 50-plus inch LCD-TV product by [the first fiscal quarter of 2013].

apple steam kinect video game console Rumor: Apple working on a revolutionary, Kinect like video game consoleIt was reported last week, by AppleInsider and the guys over at Cult of Mac, that the Apple CEO Tim Cook was spotted at Valve’s headquarters located in Bellevue, Washington. You may recognize Valve for their gaming platform Steam, and their work in creating games such as Half-LifeTeam Fortress and the wildly successful Portal.

It is far too easy, and fun, to begin speculating at what this could mean. We all know that Tim Cook doesn’t spend his time visiting companies like this for no reason. So what could it mean? For me, it seems like a perfect fit. Get involved with a company to that already has a digital gaming platform integrated for mac, PC and platform games alike.
