Notice there’re only 4 options available. Select “Check for Updates”, and wait patiently. There should be a progress bar or some animation going on the screen but no, it’s a strange blind wait. Nevetheless, you’ll notice there’ll be a whole lot more stuffs after checking for updates is done. Once that happens, scroll down and select “nitoTV”and install it. Reboot ] i did that and after selecting the 3rd party option my apple tv just rebooted itself.

i searched another option with instructions on how to use my macbook and the terminal option. that has not worked either. often resulting in errors that said the operation timed out or that that it was not recognized.. 
 could someone offer me some help please::::::::::::::::?

It is not obvious to everyone how “SSH” into their Apple TV – and I find myself chasing message boards and incomprehensible posts on Awkward TV to try and figure it out. Can anybody help a newbie out. Just got an ATV fresh out the box – new software. Just want to add Boxee to it. I've made the patchstick – loaded it unto ATV and am stuck at the part where I need to “launch” the software.

Is there a “For idiots” guide for this stuff?
